Smoked Glass

Smoked glass is a type of toughened glass that has been treated with heat and chemicals to increase its strength and durability. It has a dark, smoky appearance due to the addition of a tint during the manufacturing process. This type of glass is commonly used in architecture, interior design and furniture applications where safety and aesthetics are both important considerations.

Solid Wood

The cream of the crop in the furniture industry is working with solid wood. At Furniturespot we believe that great design should be available for everyone, and if we only would work with solid wood it would mean our items are only available for the happy few. We would like to make furniture for the ‘happy many’! Therefore, our designers and makers at Furniturespot love to work with engineered wood, also known as veneer. The price is 400% cheaper than a solid oak top. It is better resistant to the South African climate with no risk of cupping, bowing, cracking of the top and it is easy in maintenance. But don’t you worry, we do still work with solid woods such as French oak. But always in combination with veneer. Most of our tabletops have a veneer oak top with a solid oak edge. Designing furniture with best of both worlds in mind.

It lasts longer when you take good care of it

Cleaning
Avoid sudden changes in temperature as this could cause the glass to shatter. Be gentle when placing items onto the glass surface. Avoid dragging items across the glass as this can cause surface scratches.
Cleaning
A damp (never soaking wet) cloth will do it. Dry the surfaces thoroughly afterwards. Both wood and engineered wood can be damaged by liquids, so if you spill anything on it, be sure to wipe it dry immediately. If you need to remove any stains, go gently – use mild soap and warm water.

Care instructions
Dust daily with a dry microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh cleaning products and abrasives. Can be cleaned with a diluted solution of sunlight liquid and water, using a microfiber cloth to dry the surface to avoid water streaks.
Care construction
Sun damage Solid wood is sensitive to light. We’d recommend that you avoid leaving anything on the surfaces for the first 6-8 weeks, if they’re exposed to sunlight. This should help you avoid any marks or rings appearing if the furniture lightens in the sun.
